• ATKORE MARCO UTILISES SILVER ION TECHNOLOGY, TO CREATE A DEFENCE AGAINST 99.9% OF HARMFUL BACTERIA GROWTH

Atkore Marco is pleased to offer antimicrobial protection for its uPVC product ranges, including the new ELITE Hygieia range.

These trunking systems are used nationwide in environments where the spread of infection must be controlled, such as hospitals, care homes, schools and laboratories.

Atkore Marco utilises silver ion technology, to create a defence against 99.9% of harmful bacteria growth. This provides built in protection from, and prevents the growth of bacteria, fungi, mildew and moulds, including:

  • MRSA
  • E-Coli
  • Salmonella
  • Klebsiella
  • Streptococcus Pneumoniae
The antimicrobial compound is incorporated into the uPVC, and is therefore an integral part of the trunking. This means there is no degredation of performance if the surface becomes scratched or damaged as there is protection throughtout the system.

All antimicrobial products are tested in accordance with ISO22196:2007, which specifies the method of evaluating the antbacterial activity of treated uPVC products and is in compliance with all relevant European regulations.

Quantative Assessment of Activity - ISO22196:2007 - MRSA
Concentration of starting inoculum: 3.20x105 CFU/mLmL

Sample Description Number of Bacteria Recovered Log Value R=[log(B/C)] % Survival
White PVC - untreated control 4.57x106 6.7
White rigid PVC - treated with Ag ion additive <5.00x101 <1.7 >5.0 <0.1

Quantative Assessment of Activity - ISO22186:2007 - Klebsiella Pneumonia
Concentration of starting inoculum: 2.36x105 CFU/mL

Sample Description Number of Bacteria Recovered Log Value R=[log(b?c)] %Survival
White PVC - Untreated Control 1.76x106 6.3
White Rigid PVC - Treaded with Ag ion Additive <5.00x101 <1.7 <4.4 <0.1
