    MARCO ELITE 3 TRUNKING SYSTEM

The second phase of extensive redevelopment work at Ulster Hospital has begun, work that will see the hospital receive state of the art facilities helping to provide higher levels of care for patients.

The £110m development will see a new independent ward block added to the hospitals existing infrastructure, designed to the latest advanced levels of infection control.

The projects electrical installation was delivered by Blackbourne. Blackbourne formed part of the £25m joint venture, and delivered multiple solutions to the buildings scope, including minimising the developments impact on the larger hospital area.

The new seven story block will provide 12 new wards of over 200 private rooms with accompanying en-suite facilities, a key feature of the build’s design being patient privacy and dignity and infection control.

New pharmacy facilities were also developed to serve each ward, along with cardiac laboratories and an innovative new Day Procedure Unit, where patients are able to receive a range of procedures, without the need for an overnight hospital stay.

Additional blocks have been added later during construction to provide further services including specialist wards and emergency departments.

Contractors on-site installed over 1,200 metres of Marco’s Elite 3 system to house power and data cabling throughout.

The specifications required a highly specified system, and as such, the Elite 3 system was the perfect solution, able to support CAT6 compliance as standard, and deliver an aesthetic solution to match the hospital environment.

Gareth Howes, Area Sales Manager representing Marco and Unistrut in Ireland commented: “It’s great to see the Elite 3 system used for such highly specced projects. The product was designed to perform in these kinds of environments and its aesthetics and additional features are a great fit for the hospital.”

Works at the site are due to finish in 2020, with wards opening as early as spring 2020.
